What is Field Trips?

Field Trips is Springfield, Ohio's on-demand public transit service, launched on July 15, 2025. It replaced the city's former fixed-route SCAT (Springfield City Area Transit) bus system with a modern, app-based microtransit model.

Operated by Via Transportation (through River North Transit LLC), Field Trips uses a fleet of 16 branded minivans to provide shared rides within Springfield city limits. Instead of fixed bus routes with set stops, riders book trips on demand and are picked up at nearby corners, typically within minutes.

How to Use Field Trips

  1. Download the app: Search "Field Trips" on the App Store or Google Play. You can also book at fieldtrips.app.ridewithvia.com or by calling 937-328-7228.
  2. Book your ride: Enter your pickup and drop-off locations. The app will show you the nearest corner for pickup and an estimated arrival time.
  3. Meet your driver: Walk to the designated corner. The minivan will be branded with the Field Trips logo. Rides are shared with other passengers heading in a similar direction.
  4. Pay your fare: $2 standard fare. Pay by credit/debit card in the app, or cash for single rides on board.

Riders with mobility needs can request door-to-door service. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available on request.

Service Hours & Coverage

Operating hours: Monday through Friday, 6:40 AM to 6:40 PM. No weekend service.

Service area: Within Springfield city limits only.

Holiday closures: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Pets: Pets are allowed in carriers. Service animals are always welcome.
